Step by Step

  1. The seniors are asked beforehand to bring along some smaller objects, which they used in their everyday in the past but are not being used anymore. If that is not possible, the mentor can collect such objects himself. When the group meets, these object are being placed in the chest or box. The mentor can decorate the box to resemble a treasure chest.
  2. A group of seniors and children seat on chairs, which have been positioned in a circle around the chest.
  3. Children then one after the other pick one object from the chest and try to guess what it was used for.
  4. After the child’s turn, the senior who brought the object (or who knows what it is) explains the function of the object and how he/she used it.
  5. Alternative: use modern object which the seniors might have difficulties knowing and then the seniors become the ones guessing the function of each object.
